Composer and conductor, born in Bogotá (Colombia), based in Pittsburgh since 2001. I am Artistic Director of ALIA MUSICA Pittsburgh since its foundation in 2006. I am a lecturer at the music program of Chatham University, and teach private lessons in piano, composition, and music theory. My music is atonal but not entirely abstract, and I strive to engage the listener in a joint exploration and discovery of new possibilities, new relationships between sounds. Some of my pieces have received mentions and awards, including first prize in the 5th National Composition Prize in Bogotá in 2001 (for Passacaglia on a theme by Bach). This piece, along with my orchestration of Antonio Soler's harpsichord Fandango and my Canon for violin and piano, are forthcoming publications of Matthew J. Scott Music Publishing, Inc. I am preparing a CD with five of my pieces, all including piano, spanning from 2000 to the 2008. I am featured as conductor in Premiere, Alia Musica's first CD. A pdf copy of my complete curriculum vitæ (last updated on Nov. 26, 2008) is available here.
